Play Area

Village Stores The Play Area is a public space for use by residents and visitors alike. The main area is marked out as a pitch by the football club.

We have a few rules:

  1. No vehicles (except for maintenance and special events such as the festival)
  2. No dogs.
  3. Contact the Parish Clerk for use of the Pavilion.
The 4 acres of play area in the center of the village which includes the Pavilion & play equipment are under the responsibility of the Parish Council.
Play Equipment
We have a slide and two sets of swings, springy chickens and a climbing frame with more planned.

History
The area was a most generous gift from Mr. Caswell in 1981 and has been developped since into a key asset of the village. The first job was to level the ridge & furrow surface and re-seed it with grass, a job that took 3 years. It was opened in 1985 with a festival that has become an annual event since.

One current problem with the play area is the drainage which is a common issue in Ickford due to its low-lying nature. Volunteers recently replaced a section of the pipe to the road drain but the underlying issue of clogged land drains will likely persist.
